This performance was extracted from a PBS special which featured vocalist Renee Fleming. Sadly, "Adeste Fidelis" was the only choral selection to survive final editing. The Mainz Cathedral Choir is SATB and large. Choirmaster Mathias Breitschaft must have an excellent recruiting program! The cathedral itself has a TURBULENT HISTORY. Building commenced in the year 975. Tragically, the cathedral burned down on the day of its inauguration in 1009. Rebuilding was mostly complete by 1037. The structure has survived damage from three wars.
