Welcome to the

Pringle Communications Group

                    site for APRS & Packet!

Our club's purpose is to promote digital modes of ham radio communication, especially throughout the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles and Eastern New Mexico. Special interest will be given to the construction and maintenance of packet links and APRS tracking systems to provide additional coverage and availability to EOCs and other municipalities during times of natural or man made disasters.

The Pringle Communications Group was organized on February 15, 2008 to honor the memory of James K. (Jim) Lamb, who was tireless in his efforts to promote digital communications in The Panhandle of Texas.

For 20 years Jim had to contend with the effects of multiple sclerosis, but during this time he maintained an active and rewarding lifestyle for himself and many others. He pulled his sailboat to swapfests in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, choosing to stay in the boat, rather than buy motel rooms. He especially enjoyed the digital modes and always enjoyed reading, hearing and seeing reports of how he and others tracked on APRS.

Jim was truly a "lifelong learner" and friend to many.

"Pringle" is actually a very small little Texas Panhandle community, and the use of the name came about from light-hearted jokes about heavy traffic and crowded motels in "Lee's Switch", Pringle, and other out-of-the-way places.

However, Pringle was once a major relay point for AT&T Long Lines, relaying telephone and television between Borger and Gruver, TX. Xcel Energy's Pringle Interchange remains a vital power distribution installation for the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles.
