Gruhlkey, Texas

The Gruhlkey PACKET-UHF Voice-APRS site is now two-thirds completed. DALHAM (from the county name) is the PACKET node, and GRULKY is the APRS digi. The voice repeater, to be added soon, will be a part of the Caprock Intertie system.

The PACKET and APRS stations were installed Sunday, April 11, 2010. The following photos were taken by Gene, WA5ETK:

The "A" marker, below, shows the general location, about 16 miles east of the New Mexico State Line:

The photo below was taken from Interstate 40, westbound lane:

And finally... a closer look at our two antennas:

OLDHAM communicates with POTTER (north of Amarillo on the KVII-TV tower) and AMAPCG (in north Amarillo) 24-7. Still no luck with UNION, although UNION can be heard at times... trying to respond.

GRULKY communicates with APRS digis AMA39 (Amarillo) and DUMAS. From time to time it also relays from ELKMTN (Elk Mountain, ENE of Santa Fe). So far, mobile coverage along I-40 seems to depend upon the unit being tracked. This was made Sunday morning, April 18, 2010:

...especially one with a HAAT of only about 100 feet.
