Pampa, Texas

The Pampa APRS/PACKET antenna, a 9 dB gain DB-224, is side-mounted at 280 feet on the south side of the tower. The APRS transmitter runs 39 watts on a GE Phoenix SX transceiver, using a KPC-3 with Version 8.2 software. The packet node, GRAY, uses a Motorola Maratrac at 80 watts and a MFJ 1270C TNC, powered by a 20 amp Radio Shack switching power supply.

GRAY communicates well with POTTER in Amarillo, and can be accessed mobile from high points near Miami and from highway level in Panhandle, Texas. It can also be connected to mobile in areas on the caprock north of the Canadian River.

The GRAY node was installed August 24, 2008 by Chip, N5LTZ and Mark, W5EBS. Gene, WA5ETK, and Bob, W5FBQ, were also on hand to observe.
