Sierra Grande Mountain, New Mexico

It was a great idea. UNION was located on Sierra Grande Mountain in Northeastern New Mexico.

Sadly, it had problems that kept it from being of much use. Tests showed that it HEARD very well, when the 147.28 repeater on Sierra Grande did not desense it.  But it is was difficult to print transmissions from UNION, even with a strong signal. (Some print came through if PASSALL was enabled, but it was difficult to read.)

The transceiver needed a notch filter, and the TNC should have been replaced. In spite of several requests, we were never allowed access to the site to make repairs.
