Boy soloists come in many varieties and have their own particular followings. Although most of us admire every young man's courage to perform alone and appreciate the good example he is setting for other boys, our preference for one or more types of music usually determines how much we enjoy their singing. Some are not so well known because of the economic facts of life-- CDs and videos are expensive to produce; and you must have a good promotional staff-- which will also drain the college fund!   But here they are-- some of our boy soloists from the past and the present! Clicking on the photos will take you to either an audio recording or video presentation of their efforts.

Tyler McCluskey

Tyler McCluskey was born October 13, 1994 in Milton Keynes, a city of northern Buckinghamshire, about 45 miles (75 km) northwest of London. He has enjoyed singing all of his life.   At age eleven he sang an unaccompanied solo at Bancroft Christian Spiritualist Church and instantly impressed the church organist, Jeff Carter, who soon became his coach and manager. In addition to his vocal talent, Tyler is also an accomplished dancer and has a flair for comedy. According to Carter, Tyler has a "unique ability to evoke floods of tears with his superb voice as easily as he can create howls of laughter with his wicked sense of humor."   He has earned the Black Belt in karate; enjoys kick boxing and art. He helps out at an afternoon school center for local children, and has given concerts at local nursing homes and hospices.   Tlyer has two privately recorded CDs-- A sample selection is available by clicking on his photo. All proceeds from his CD sales go to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

Dion Condack

Dion Condack was born in Sydney, Australia on January 21, 1994. As a little boy he was always singing, but his parents did not suspect his talent to be anything special. That changed when Dion tried out for a Junior Chapel Choir at age eight. Within a week he was invited to sing in the High School Chapel Choir. A few weeks later he became a member of the elite Chamber Choir-- the youngest ever member of both the latter choirs!   Dion performed in his first opera, Tosca, with Opera Australia in 2005. He has sung in Hansel & Gretel, The Magic Flute and had a principal role in Batavia. In April, 2006, he performed solo in front of 10,000 people at the ANZAC International Military Tattoo in Sydney's Superdome. He was accompanied by 400 musicians and a choir of 200. Dion is currently attending the Newtown High School of Performing Arts. His ambition is to become a great tenor like Andrea Boccelli. Alex Prior

This unique young man is a great grandson of the famous Russian Theatre reformer Constantine Stanislavsky, but he was born and raised in England. He has been described as the "little Pavarotti" because of the unusual power of his voice-- click on his picture for Real Video evidence! The original Dutch video was taped when Alex won the International Gold Medal for Folk Solo for under 16 at the International Music Eisteddfod in Llangollen. Following the murders in September of 2004 at the school in Beslan, Alex composed a requiem, dedicated to the children of the siege. He gave this requiem to Valerie Gergiev, an outstanding Russian conductor, when they both performed at a charity gala for the children of Beslan. There is much more about Alex at his website.

Blake Ewing

Not many popular 'kid actors' become singers, but an exception has been Blake Ewing. Born March 27, 1985, he began his professional career at six years of age on the television show "Star Search", winning the 1992 'Junior Vocalist Champion' award. That lead to the recurring role of 'Derek' on the ABC series "Full House".  This talented youngster played the somewhat 'nerdy' character of "Waldo" in the 1994 remake of The Little Rascals. As a singer, Blake was featured on sixteen programs of Robert Schuller's "Hour of Power". Click on his photo at right (above) to see and hear his performance of April 13, 1997. Or, the link at left will allow you to enjoy his rendition of "Shepherd of My Heart", taped about two months before his tenth birthday. In 2004 Blake was attending UCLA, working for a Theater Drama degree.

Michael Junior

Michael Junior (real name Michael Verschuere) was born on April 21, 1986. Helmut Lotti was Michael's much admired role model, and Lotti "discovered" Michael after the boy from Bruges, Belgium attended one of his concerts. Michael sings with great confidence in several languages. His TV program with Lotti has been seen around the world-- click on the picture above for a Real Video of one of their duets! It was taped before a sell-out crowd in Hanover, Germany.  You will see joyful, sincere interaction which certainly shows that singing CAN be "A Guy Thing"!

Demis

This Dutch singer seems to have gone into Boy Singer Oblivion after recording two CDs and a single. Demis Haneveer was born May 25, 1982. He lives in Tilburg, Netherlands. When he appeared on the Netherlands television program "Goeiemiddag" ("Good Afternoon"), he was a shy, easy-going kid. To play the video, click on his photo at left. Included is an interview in Dutch-- In it, he says that he doesn't mind his fans' attention unless they touch him; and that he considers it an honor to be compared to earlier Dutch soloist Heintje. This recording plays for almost six minutes. It takes about 12-13 minutes to download on a 56K dial-up. The song he performs is that of a boy with family problems: The father wants a divorce from his mother. He sings, "If you want to be that way, go then."
